Junior Iron Chef Durham is an exciting cooking-based nutrition education program for middle and high school students. The goals of the program are to:

  • Improve nutrition knowledge
  • Build teamwork and leadership skills
  • Develop basic cooking skills
  • Reinforce math skill with measuring
  • Decrease childhood overweight/obesity
  • Strengthen literacy skills using recipes

Each week, students compete to cook a healthy dish while learning about nutrition. Lesson topics include:

  • Fats and Fast Food
  • Whole Grains and Breakfast
  • Measuring ingredients
  • Knife Skills
