Junior Iron Chef Durham is an exciting cooking-based nutrition education program for middle and high school students. The goals of the program are to:
- Improve nutrition knowledge
- Build teamwork and leadership skills
- Develop basic cooking skills
- Reinforce math skill with measuring
- Decrease childhood overweight/obesity
- Strengthen literacy skills using recipes
Each week, students compete to cook a healthy dish while learning about nutrition. Lesson topics include:
- Fats and Fast Food
- Whole Grains and Breakfast
- Measuring ingredients
- Knife Skills
